Product details

Background & context

In 1943 the Sturmgewehr 44 was at first designated MP 43, because a new rifle was not wanted at the very top. Technically it was a break with everything that had gone before: the short 7.92mm cartridge sat between pistol and rifle ammunition and gave a single rifleman automatic fire at combat range. The weapon was issued first to formations on the Eastern Front and later in the West too, but never in any significant breadth. A squad in which every man carried one therefore remained the exception, and that is exactly what this set recreates.

On the tabletop

The ten metal figures form a German squad in Bolt Action in which every man carries a Sturmgewehr 44. Such a squad relies on a high volume of fire at combat range, for example from hedgerows and shattered towns, on the Eastern as well as the Western Front. The separate heads let you assemble the figures the way you want. The tent quarters worn as capes can be painted in splinter pattern or Italian camouflage.
