Background & context

Vickers put the Valentine forward in 1938 as a private venture; nobody had ordered it. What came of it was one of the most widely built British tanks of the war. From 1940 it served in the Western Desert as an infantry tank, weighing 16 tons and yet so cramped that the three-man crew could hardly move. On paper it was slow and weakly armed; in practice it won acceptance because it got there. Thousands of vehicles went to the Red Army under Lend-Lease, and New Zealand units used it in the Far East.

On the tabletop

The Valentine II is an infantry tank that accompanies your advancing infantry in Bolt Action. With 65 mm of armour it shrugs off many hits, strikes back with its 2-pounder and Besa machine gun, and is slow but very reliable. It suits British lists for the Western Desert from 1940, New Zealand troops in the Far East and Soviet armoured platoons until the end of the war. Stat card and order die are included.
