Product details

Background & context

The US Marine Raiders were formed in response to the specific demands of the war in the Pacific and were conceptually based on British special forces. While their original purpose was to conduct raids and asymmetric warfare behind enemy lines, in practice they often fought alongside regular Marines. Two battalions particularly shaped the image of this elite unit: the 1st and 2nd Raider Battalions, which were deployed against Japanese forces on various Pacific islands. After approximately two years of active combat operations, the Raider battalions were integrated into a regular Marine division and subsequently fought as standard infantry until the end of the war.

On the tabletop

With these ten metal figures you field the Marine Raiders in Bolt Action as a squad for a USMC list from 1942 onwards. Like the British Commandos they were intended for raids behind the lines, but in the Pacific they mostly fought side by side with regular Marines. Fitting settings are the raid on Makin Atoll and the fighting on Guadalcanal. In your army they add an experienced unit to the regular Marine squads.
