    Product details

    Background & context

In the autumn and winter of 1944 American divisions fought in the Hürtgen Forest, Lorraine, the Ardennes and Alsace in rain, snow and frost. Weatherproof winter clothing reached the front late, so many soldiers wore the long wool greatcoat, which soaked up water and grew heavy. Frostbite and the dreaded trench foot cost many units large numbers of men. Those who could wore several layers of uniform and wrapped scarves around head and neck.

    On the tabletop

Three riflemen taking aim and two soldiers with rifles at the ready form the core of a winter squad. Place them behind tree trunks or in foxholes at the edge of a wood, from where they hold off an attack across the snowy clearing. In Bolt Action they reinforce US Army squads in the Ardennes or in Alsace. Together with the jeep crew in winter clothing you get a force dressed in the same kit.
