Product details

Background & context

The Ranger Battalions were formed in 1942 on the model of the British Commandos and were drilled at Achnacarry by those very instructors. What they were handed afterwards were the jobs nobody else wanted: the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, the push on Cisterna, the house-to-house fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. Such operations stood or fell with the platoon leader, because the radio link upwards often simply did not exist and decisions had to be made on the spot.

On the tabletop

These four platoon commanders belong in a Rangers army for Bolt Action, one each for a rifle, recce, artillery and heavy weapons platoon. Since every platoon has to be led by its own officer, they let you field up to four platoons. In actions such as Pointe du Hoc, Cisterna or the Hürtgen Forest a great deal depended on these men, because contact with the rear was often lost. The figures work on their own or with attendants from other packs.
