Product details

Background & context

Its opponents rated American artillery as the most dangerous weapon the US Army had, and that was down to fire control more than to the guns. Forward observers moved up with the infantry and passed targets by field telephone or radio to a fire direction centre that could mass several battalions on one point within minutes. A lieutenant, a radio operator and a pair of binoculars were all it took.

On the tabletop

This observer team lets you bring American artillery into the fight. One man lies up front with binoculars while two kneel behind him and keep contact with the fire direction centre. Lying and kneeling, the team disappears easily behind a hedge or into a shell crater, where it can see the target without being seen. It advances with your leading infantry and relies on their protection, as it is not meant for the firefight itself.
