Background & context

The US Army took the field in 1942 with a squad organisation designed for firepower per man: the semi-automatic M1 Garand replaced the bolt-action rifle, and the whole squad was built around the Browning Automatic Rifle. At first that counted for little, as in North Africa the units simply lacked experience. From Sicily and Normandy onwards it became clear how quickly an American squad could build up fire, and this structure remained largely unchanged until the Rhine crossing.

On the tabletop

The 42 figures make a complete American infantry platoon with its HQ for 1942 to 1945. Each squad relies on riflemen with the M1 Garand and the Browning Automatic Rifle around which its firepower is built, plus scouts and squad leaders. The two .30 Browning machine guns are deployed as support. That lets you lead the platoon from North Africa via Sicily to Normandy.
