Background & context

On 6 June 1944 American troops came ashore at Omaha and Utah in Normandy. For the assault, rifle platoons were split into boat sections of around 30 men, each filling one landing craft and carrying wire cutters and Bangalore torpedoes for wire and obstacles. Larger LCMs brought tanks and heavy equipment onto the beach. On Omaha the first waves suffered especially heavy losses.

On the tabletop

Split the 30 plastic figures, with command models and weapons ranging from Garand, BAR and Thompson to bazooka, into rifle squads and a small HQ. The .30 cal team follows the first wave and sets up as a base of fire once ashore. The LCM lands the M4 Sherman, which then deals with bunkers and machine gun nests. On a table with beach, obstacles and bunkers you can replay the assault on a coastal position in Normandy, attacking a German defence.
