    Background & context

    When the M5 reached the troops at the end of 1943, it penetrated any German armour that came in front of its barrel. Its size and weight, however, made it unpopular: without a tow vehicle the gun barely moved, and US doctrine preferred mobile tank destroyers. Even so, in the winter of 1944/45 these guns stood in the Ardennes, dug in at crossroads, with crews in winter coats and snow camouflage.

    On the tabletop

    In the winter of 1944 the heavy 3-inch M5 stood dug in at crossroads in the Ardennes, and this version with four crew in winter uniform is made for exactly that. In Bolt Action it joins the artillery platoon as a heavy anti-tank gun. Its gun could penetrate any German armour, but the piece is big and heavy. A half-track tows it into place, so choose a spot with a wide field of fire beforehand. The oval MDF base holds gun and crew together.
