Background & context

The M8 was planned as a wheeled tank destroyer and was a failed design in that role: a 37 mm gun was no longer enough in 1943 against anything that carried armour, and the hull floor was so thin that crews laid sandbags under the seats. As a scout, on the other hand, it was excellent, with six driven wheels and high speed on the road. The M20 dropped the turret, was given a powerful radio and rode along with the cavalry reconnaissance troops as a command and liaison vehicle.

On the tabletop

These three wheeled armoured cars let you field an armoured reconnaissance platoon for your American army in Bolt Action. You build each vehicle either as an M8 Greyhound with a 37 mm gun and coaxial MG or as an open M20 with a radio for command. For example, you can combine two M8s for firepower with one M20 as the command vehicle. Historically these scout cars worked best in pairs, covering each other in bounds as they advanced. They are very fast on roads but bog down easily in mud, and their armour only keeps out small arms fire. They are suitable for Achtung Panzer! as well.
