Background & context

In December 1944 the 101st Airborne was moved to Bastogne without winter clothing to hold a road junction that the German offensive depended on. What followed was a week in the pocket in constant frost, short of ammunition and with no supply from the air, because fog kept the transport aircraft on the ground. During that time command ran through platoon leaders and NCOs, because the link upwards kept breaking. Medics and radio operators counted as paratroopers like everyone else there and lay in the same foxhole.

On the tabletop

Two officers, a medic and a radio operator form the headquarters of your winter US Airborne army. In Bolt Action every platoon needs an officer, so two figures let you lead two platoons. The medic tends the wounded, and the radio operator serves as a forward observer or as a spotter for a weapons team. In the Ardennes platoon leaders often had to manage for long stretches without senior command, which makes these figures a good fit for games set in December 1944.
