    Product details

    Background & context

During the 1944/45 winter campaign, US airborne troops were among the most severely tested units of the Western Allies. Under extreme weather conditions and often without adequate winter equipment, they withstood massive pressure. Heavy weapons platoons formed the backbone of their firepower on the ground: while light infantry held the terrain, machine guns and mortars provided the necessary suppressive fire. The combination of mobility and heavy fire made the airborne units formidable defenders in rugged winter terrain.

    On the tabletop

With a mortar, a .30 cal and a .50 cal your winter US Airborne army in Bolt Action gains a complete heavy weapons platoon. The medium mortar fires high explosive at enemies behind cover, the .30 cal machine gun engages infantry and the .50 cal threatens troops on foot and light vehicles alike. An officer leads the three teams as a platoon of their own. Four order dice are included, so you can add the formation straight into your Ardennes list.
