    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    American airborne troops were deployed as elite units behind enemy lines starting in 1942 and often had to operate without heavy support. The Browning M1919A4, with its rate of fire of 500 rounds per minute, was the backbone of American fire control at the platoon level, while a lighter variant could also be carried by paratroopers in the field. Medics were particularly valuable in airborne warfare, as wounded soldiers in cut-off operational areas often depended on their initial treatment. Despite its weight, the 60mm M2 mortar offered significantly greater range and effectiveness than comparable German and British types - paratroopers also used the lighter M19 variant.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The early variant of the US Airborne Support Group for 1943-44 operations such as Sicily, Salerno and D-Day Normandy. Clad in M42 jump uniforms, the box combines an HQ squad, MMG team and medium mortar team - the central support pillar of the 82nd Airborne in the Mediterranean and early Western Front theaters. In Bolt Action, the Support Group complements the standard Airborne Platoon with command structure and heavy weapon firepower.
