Product details

Background & context

Together with its tripod the Browning M1919A4 weighed over fourteen kilograms, which made it nothing one man carries along in the advance: it was set up, laid and then held. That role is exactly what shaped its airborne use. After the jump such teams secured crossroads, bridge approaches and the edges of villages until the formations from the beaches moved up. At Carentan and on the Merderet, individual well-sited guns decided whole days. The crew consisted of gunner, loader and ammunition carrier.

On the tabletop

After the Normandy landings, teams with the Browning .30 held crossroads, bridges and village edges until the troops from the beaches arrived. In Bolt Action the medium machine gun is the mainstay of your Airborne army's heavy weapons platoon. Its sustained anti-infantry fire makes it a strong defensive weapon for controlling open ground. The three resin crew figures wear the M42 jump uniform, while the gun itself is metal.
