Product details

Background & context

Officially the Type 91 was a broad-gauge railway tractor, and that was its special trick: it could switch quickly between road and rail. On roads it managed about 40 km/h, on rails almost twice that. The Imperial Army and the naval landing forces used it in China from 1937. It had no built-in armament; its crew of six fired a 7.7mm machine gun through the vision ports in the turret.

On the tabletop

For your Japanese army in Bolt Action the So-Mo is an armoured car with a light machine gun in its turret. Being armoured, it shrugs off rifle fire, but anti-tank weapons are a real threat. Use it to scout ahead and watch open flanks, for example in games covering the advance into China or alongside the naval landing forces. The road version shows it on wheels, as it ran away from the tracks.
