Product details

Background & context

The German airborne successes of 1940 impressed Tokyo so much that the army raised its own parachute force and placed it under the army air service. Its big moment came in February 1942 over Palembang on Sumatra: one regiment took the airfield, a second the town and the oil refinery. Losses were so high that further jumps remained rare, and afterwards the Teishin Shudan fought on the ground like their German counterparts. The final operation against US airfields on Leyte ended in death for almost the entire force.

On the tabletop

You field Japan's Teishin Shudan paratroopers in Bolt Action as a squad of ten metal figures. Their best-known operation was the drop on Palembang in February 1942, after which they mostly fought on foot as elite infantry. The squad therefore suits games in the Dutch East Indies as well as later fighting in the Pacific, such as the attack on American airfields on Leyte. In a Japanese list it adds an experienced unit to the regular infantry squads.
