Product details

Background & context

From 1943 the Japanese infantry faced a problem it could not solve technically: against a Sherman neither the 37 mm anti-tank gun nor the anti-tank rifle was any use. So improvised solutions emerged, adhesive charges and explosive charges on a bamboo pole, carried by individual soldiers who went under the vehicle with them. Snipers and flamethrowers rounded out this repertoire in the fighting for bunkers and cave positions, as waged on Peleliu, Iwojima and Okinawa.

On the tabletop

Japanese infantry lacked anti-tank guns able to deal with heavier tanks such as the Sherman, hence the two suicide anti-tank teams of one man each in this box. In Bolt Action you bring them up to the vehicle through cover. The sniper team targets officers, observers and squad leaders, while the flamethrower attacks defended positions such as bunkers and caves. Six resin figures, four order dice and bases are included.
