    Product details

    Background & context

From 1943 the Americans worked their way towards Japan island by island, and every landing followed the same bitter pattern: bombardment, landing craft, then metre by metre through bunkers, tunnels and palm stumps. The Japanese garrisons received neither supplies nor evacuation, so they dug in and sold every square metre as dearly as possible. Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa stand for fighting at the closest quarters, where flamethrowers and demolition charges decided more than tanks did.

    On the tabletop

Twelve US Marines with the M3A1 half-track attack, twelve Japanese infantry with the Chi-Ha hold against them: that is how the sides stand on the double-sided mat once the box is unpacked. The ruined MDF hut settlement provides cover and is the place the fight revolves around. Orders run through the Order Dice drawn from the bag, incoming fire brings pin markers that make it harder to follow further orders, and templates and ten dice are included as well. In this edition the third edition rulebook is in German, and the quick reference on the insert saves leafing through it. Later, each half grows into an army of its own with further Pacific units.
