Product details

Background & context

Japan's rule in China and Manchuria hung on the railway lines, and those had to be secured. The Type 91 was built for exactly that: around 40 km/h on the road, about double that after switching to broad gauge. It had no fixed main armament; instead the crew pushed a 7.7 mm machine gun through the vision slits of the turret. It was used by the Imperial Army as well as by the naval landing forces, among other things in the advance in China from 1937.

On the tabletop

The Type 91 So-Mo is a Japanese armoured car that could historically switch from road to broad-gauge rail, shown here in road configuration. In Bolt Action it is a lightly armed armoured car that also carries infantry: the crew fires a light MG through the vision slits while it brings a squad forward. It was used by the army and the naval landing forces, among other places in the advance into China from 1937. Decals and damage markers are included.
