Product details

Background & context

In Japanese castle towns of the 16th and 17th centuries, samurai lived in their own quarters close to the castle. Their residences were surrounded by tall earthen walls on stone bases, topped with tiles to protect them from rain. Such walls formed long, narrow lanes that slowed attackers down. Temples and wealthy merchants protected their yards in the same way.

On the tabletop

If the basic courtyard walls are not enough, add these sections and close the compound on every side. Long runs of wall divide the table into lanes and yards that attackers have to work their way through. Defenders stand in full cover behind the wall, while the window gives a view of the street. With the ruins from the same range you show a quarter already marked by fighting.
