    Background & context

In 1944 the US Army was looking for a way to carry rocket area fire right in the tank line. The answer was a rack of sixty tubes for 4.5-inch rockets, set on top of the Sherman's turret and linked to the gun by a rod, so the rack was aimed with the whole gun barrel. One salvo blanketed patches of woodland and the edges of villages, and after that the launcher was empty. If need be, the crew jettisoned the upper bank of tubes.

    On the tabletop

The T34 Calliope adds a frame of sixty rocket tubes to the turret of your American Sherman. One salvo blankets woods and the edges of villages with area fire, after which the launcher is empty. It was aimed via the main gun, so the frame follows every movement of turret and barrel. Both the early and the late pattern are included. You need the Sherman as well; any version with the large high bustle turret will take it.
