Product details

Background & context

Assault guns did not belong to the armoured troops but to the artillery, and their crews wore field-grey uniforms instead of black panzer jackets. The idea behind them was an armoured gun that drives right alongside the attacking infantry and shoots up pockets of resistance. The Ausf. D of 1941 carried the short StuK 37 L/24 for that purpose. Because the superstructure stayed low without a turret, the vehicle was hard to spot and easy to camouflage, an advantage that lasted to the end of the war.

On the tabletop

With the short 7.5 cm StuK 37, the StuG III Ausf. D is an assault gun for German lists from 1941. In Bolt Action it counts as a medium tank with a forward-firing light howitzer in its superstructure. Push it forward alongside the infantry and shell enemy positions; it can also deal with early-war tanks. Its low profile makes cover easy to find. The model is cast in resin and metal.
