Background & context

After the French invasion of 1808 Spain's regular army fell apart, but the resistance did not. Peasants, scattered soldiers and priests banded together, intercepted couriers, plundered convoys and made every country road unsafe. The Spanish term for this little war, guerrilla, travelled from there into almost every language. France had to detach tens of thousands of men simply to secure its lines of communication.

On the tabletop

The 40 guerrillas are made for actions in Spain from 1808. In Black Powder you field them as skirmishers, in smaller skirmish rules they form a force of their own. Muskets and blunderbusses hold sunken lanes, wood edges and farmsteads, while swords, spears and knives arm men for the ambush at close quarters. Targets are French couriers, supply columns and small garrisons. Spanish line infantry or British troops expand them into a larger force.
