Description

The firing line to go with the basic box SPA 70: the same four troop types, but in loading and firing poses. Throw both boxes together and you also get stand-at-ease and skirmisher poses out of them.

Background & context

A standing firing line was anything but a matter of course for Spanish formations after 1808: training, ammunition and NCOs were all lacking, and whole regiments consisted of recruits. That makes the moments when they held weigh all the more. At Albuera in 1811 the Spanish right flank stood long enough for Beresford's counter-attack to come about at all. Scenes exactly like that are what you recreate with this set of sprues.

On the tabletop

Here the four Spanish troop types from core box SPA 70 appear loading and firing. They let you show battalions holding a position in a firefight, like the Spanish flank at Albuera in 1811. Combining both boxes also gives you skirmish and at-ease poses for skirmish screens and reserves. Head options from bicorne to civilian cap turn the same box into line, militia, grenadiers or light infantry.
