Background & context

Spain's line army of 1808 was poorly supplied and far from uniformly dressed, yet it could still spring a surprise: at Bailén in the summer of 1808 it forced an entire French corps to capitulate. After that came heavy defeats, disbanded regiments and new units raised from provincial militias. Anyone putting these years on the table mixes bicorne, shako and civilian cap in the same unit, and is historically spot on in doing so.

On the tabletop

This core box lays the foundation for a Spanish army in the Peninsular War. From the same set of frames you build line infantry, provincial militia, grenadiers or light infantry, depending on heads and poses. Bicornes, shakos, grenadier and forage caps and civilian headgear let you portray the mixed regiments raised after the defeats and reorganisations from 1808. For an action such as Bailén you field several battalions in marching poses, with British allies or guerrillas alongside.
