Product details

Background & context

The purges of 1937 cost the Red Army most of its officer corps, and the gaps were plugged with crash courses. Anyone leading a platoon in 1941 often had only a few weeks of training behind him, and decisions of his own could end before a court martial. That changed over time: in 1943 shoulder boards and the old rank titles returned, the political commissar lost his right of veto, and the platoon commanders of the final phase were experienced practical soldiers.

On the tabletop

Each of the four officers in this pack is designed for one platoon type in your Soviet Bolt Action army: rifle, recce, artillery and heavy weapons. Without an officer no platoon receives orders in Bolt Action, so these figures let you lead up to four platoons. Fielded on their own or with attendants from other sets, they give every platoon a clearly recognisable leader.
