Description

The Soviet People's Militia - the Narodnoe Opolcheniye - was the last reserve of the beleaguered major cities in the grim years of 1941/42: workers, students, and ordinary citizens who fought against the advancing German units with little more than determination. This set depicts a typical People's Militia group and can also be used as Soviet partisans.

Product details

Background & context

The People's Militia - Narodnoye Opolcheniye in Russian - looks back on centuries of tradition and is considered an integral part of Russian national consciousness. In the critical years of 1941/42, factory workers, office employees, and ordinary city dwellers in Leningrad, Moscow, Rostov, and Stalingrad took up arms to defend their homeland against the German advance. These improvised units had little military training and suffered from chronic material shortages - yet they fought with extraordinary determination on the front lines. Historically, they are difficult to separate from Soviet partisan units, which underscores their dual role on the tabletop.

On the tabletop

Twelve metal figures represent a squad of the Soviet People's Militia in Bolt Action, as raised in Leningrad, Moscow, Rostov and Stalingrad in 1941. Workers and students went to the front there with almost no training and basic weapons. The squad makes up for its lack of experience with its size, and you mainly use it to occupy ground and objectives. The figures also work as partisans for scenarios behind German lines.
