    Background & context

    When the front slid deep inland in 1941, crews of the Baltic and Black Sea Fleets were taken off their ships and used as infantry. Many kept the black naval uniform and the striped telnyashka shirt; on the German side this was soon called the Black Death. These brigades were equipped with whatever the army depots could spare: sniper rifles, light mortars, flamethrowers. In the street fighting at Sevastopol and Stalingrad that mixture paid off.

    On the tabletop

    A sniper, a light mortar and a flamethrower, all in naval uniform, give your Soviet Naval Brigade its own support teams in Bolt Action. In street fighting the flamethrower cleared cellars and buildings, the sniper made whole streets deadly, and the light mortar fired over cover. That is exactly where you deploy the teams, among ruins and city blocks. They give your platoon tactical options without falling back on army figures.
