Product details

Background & context

The Maxim Model 1910 had been the standard weapon of Russian and later Soviet machine gun crews since Tsarist times. On the two-wheeled Sokolov mount the crew could tow it, though with its shield it weighed more than 60 kilograms. Water cooling allowed long bursts, so despite newer designs the Maxim remained in service in large numbers until the end of the war.

On the tabletop

The Maxim adds a medium machine gun support team to your Soviet army in Bolt Action. At long range it keeps enemy infantry under sustained fire and pins them down while your rifle sections move up. The heavy weapon is slow to move, so set the team up in a fixed position with a good field of fire, such as ruins or a wood line. It suits every year of the war on the Eastern Front.
