    Product details

    Background & context

Soviet rifle companies were constantly turning over their strength: losses were replaced from march battalions, items of uniform were scraped together, weapons picked up. That hardly two men in a platoon looked alike is the norm for the Eastern Front, not the exception. The winter offensives from Stalingrad through Kursk to the Vistula were carried by exactly such motley formations: poorly trained, but tough and in great numbers.

    On the tabletop

Set 2 adds five more Red Army men in winter clothing whose poses differ from those in Set 1. Among them are a kneeling marksman with a telescopic sight, a man throwing a grenade and soldiers with rifles or submachine guns. Together with Set 1 you have ten figures for a winter platoon that tops up depleted squads or forms a second squad. They suit the Red Army winter offensives from Stalingrad to the Vistula.
