    Product details

    Background & context

The DShK entered service in 1938 and stayed there long after the war. Vasily Degtyaryov designed the weapon and Georgy Shpagin its belt feed, hence the name. Its 12.7mm round went through the armour of scout cars and half-tracks, and on the tripod it served as an anti-aircraft gun. For ground fighting it rolled on Kolesnikov's two-wheeled mount. With the shield the whole thing weighed over 150 kilograms, which is why the crew pulled it rather than carried it.

    On the tabletop

The DShK on its wheeled mount with gun shield is the heavy machine gun of your Soviet force. Its 12.7 mm calibre works against infantry at long range and also penetrates armoured cars and half-tracks. Four men make up the crew: the gunner behind the shield, an assistant at the ammunition box and two carriers bringing up more rounds. Because the gun and mount weighed over 150 kilograms and had to be towed, you choose its position early and rarely move it.
