Background & context

Die Rote Armee führte über Kommandopunkte, die selten mehr waren als ein ausgebauter Keller, eine Bauernstube oder ein abgedeckter Erdunterstand. Ein Tisch, eine Karte, ein Feldtelefon - damit wurden Angriffe angesetzt, oft im Beisein des Politoffiziers, dessen Mitentscheidungsrecht 1942 endgültig auf den Truppenführer überging. Wer sowjetische Verbände nachstellt, baut deshalb keinen Stabszelt-Palast, sondern eine improvisierte Ecke mit zusammengetragenem Mobiliar.

On the tabletop

Two Soviet officers and a table with a radio set make up a Red Army command post. One sits at the field telephone, the other stands beside him with a megaphone and a message, passing on orders. On the table the scene marks your command, and in a scenario it serves as an objective the enemy wants to reach. It looks most convincing in a cellar, a farmhouse room or a dugout, where Soviet command posts were usually set up.
