Background & context

In World War II, the Red Army consistently relied on specialized weapon groups to increase firepower at the company and platoon level. Snipers held a particularly high status in Soviet military doctrine: training programs systematically fostered new recruits, and successful marksmen - including many women - were elevated to propagandistic icons. The light 50mm M1940 mortar supplemented the infantry with indirect fire, while ROKS-2 flamethrowers were used not only against fortified positions but explicitly also in anti-tank combat. In the Winter War on the Eastern Front, Soviet infantry, equipped for cold weather and with superior knowledge of the terrain, often had an advantage over their adversaries.

On the tabletop

On the winter Eastern Front these three teams give you precision fire, indirect fire and a flamethrower in Bolt Action. The sniper follows the tradition of the marksmen trained in the ruins of Stalingrad and Leningrad and picks out single important targets. The light mortar drops rounds in a short arc over the nearest cover, while the flamethrower attacks occupied houses. An order die is included for each of the three teams.
