Background & context

Die Rote Armee richtete schon in den 1930er Jahren Hunde für den Panzerkampf ab: Futter gab es nur unter Fahrzeugen, später trugen die Tiere eine Ladung mit Kipphebelzünder auf dem Rücken. In der Praxis blieb der Erfolg dünn - viele Hunde liefen im Gefechtslärm zu den eigenen Stellungen zurück, weil sie an sowjetischen Motoren trainiert worden waren. Nach 1942 spielte die Methode kaum noch eine Rolle.

On the tabletop

Two handlers with two explosive-carrying dogs represent the Red Army's most controversial anti-tank method in Bolt Action. The dogs carried a charge with a tilt-lever fuse and were meant to run under enemy vehicles. In the noise of battle, however, many ran back to their own lines, and after 1942 the method hardly played a role. For games on the early Eastern Front you place the teams in cover near the route of enemy tanks.
