Background & context

Der S35 trug 40 bis 47 Millimeter Panzerung, blieb dabei wendig und schoss mit einer 4,7-cm-Kanone plus Koaxial-MG. Auf dem Papier schlug er alles, was die Wehrmacht 1940 aufbot. Gescheitert ist er an der französischen Truppenführung, die ihre Panzer über die ganze Front verteilte, statt sie zu bündeln. Die Deutschen übernahmen erbeutete Fahrzeuge als Panzerkampfwagen 35-S 739(f), und auch Italien, Bulgarien und Ungarn bekamen Somuas aus französischen Beständen.

On the tabletop

In the early war the Somua S35 was regarded as the best tank of all: 40 to 47 mm of armour, yet still manoeuvrable, plus a 47 mm gun and a coaxial machine gun. In Bolt Action you put it at the head of your French list for 1940, where it is a match for early German tanks. After France fell, the Wehrmacht took it over as the Panzerkampfwagen 35-S 739(f), and Italy, Bulgaria and Hungary used it too. A random crew figure from a set of six is included.
