Background & context

Fairfax war ein Yorkshireman ohne Hang zu großen Worten und hatte sein Handwerk als Freiwilliger in den Niederlanden gelernt. 1640 focht er noch für Karl I., wechselte aber verärgert über dessen Eigenmächtigkeiten zum Parlament. Bei Marston Moor wurde er verwundet und gewann trotzdem; als Lord General der New Model Army entschied er Naseby. Die Unterschrift unter das Todesurteil des Königs verweigerte er - eine Haltung, die ihm bis heute angerechnet wird.

On the tabletop

Sir Thomas Fairfax, called Black Tom for his dark hair and eyes, leads your Parliamentarian army in Pike & Shotte as commander-in-chief. As Lord General of the New Model Army he decided the battle of Naseby, having already won at Marston Moor despite being wounded. On the table he stands behind your lines and gives orders to your brigades. He later refused to sign the King's death warrant. The mounted figure is metal.
