Background & context

Cornwall war 1642 eine royalistische Hochburg mit eigenem Selbstverständnis, und Sir Bevill Grenville brachte die cornischen Fußtruppen unter Ralph Hopton ins Feld. Bei Braddock Down und Stratton trugen diese Verbände die Entscheidung, weil sie in schwerem Gelände angriffen, wo Reiterei nichts ausrichtete. Grenville fiel 1643 auf Lansdowne Hill an der Spitze seiner Männer. Anthony Payne war mit über sieben Fuß eine im ganzen Land bekannte Erscheinung und blieb bis zu diesem Tag an seiner Seite.

On the tabletop

Sir Bevill Grenville and his bodyguard Anthony Payne, the Cornish Giant, lead the Cornish foot of your Royalist army in Pike & Shotte. Field Grenville as a brigade commander under Ralph Hopton, with Payne always at his side. Scenarios include Braddock Down and Stratton, where the Cornishmen attacked across difficult ground, and Lansdown in 1643, where Grenville fell at the head of his men. Both figures are metal.
