Product details

Background & context

Diocletian placed himself under the protection of Jupiter and took the name Iovius; the legion named after the god belonged to the core of the imperial field army from the Tetrarchy onwards. In the Notitia Dignitatum the Ioviani Seniores stand at the head of the infantry of the West, with no legion ranked above them. With the Herculiani they formed a fixed pair that served together into the fifth century. The title Seniores comes from the division of many units into senior and junior formations in the fourth century.

On the tabletop

In the Notitia Dignitatum no legion of the West ranks ahead of the Ioviani Seniores. Named for Jupiter, patron god of Diocletian, the legion belonged to the core of the imperial field army from the Tetrarchy and fought alongside the Herculiani into the 5th century. These 36 waterslide transfers are pre-cut and fit the plastic shields of the Wargames Atlantic Late Roman range. With them you can field one of your legions as the senior unit of the Western army.
