Product details

Background & context

The Chi-Rho lays the first two letters of the Greek word Christos over one another. According to Lactantius, writing a few years later, Constantine had the sign put on the shields of his soldiers before the battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312, after it had been shown to him in a dream. With his victory over Maxentius the monogram became an imperial emblem, carried ahead of the armies as the labarum. In the fourth and fifth centuries it was a familiar sight among Roman troops.

On the tabletop

According to Lactantius, Constantine had the Chi-Rho monogram of Christ placed on his soldiers' shields before the battle at the Milvian Bridge in 312. With these 36 pre-cut decals you can mark a whole Late Roman unit with the sign, applied straight onto Wargames Atlantic plastic shields without trimming. The design suits any Christian regiment of the 4th and 5th centuries.
