Product details

Background & context

In the Pacific, US crews modified their Shermans themselves in the field: wooden planks on the hull sides were meant to stop Japanese infantry from placing magnetic mines and demolition charges directly against the armour. In assaults on fortified island positions, where infantrymen could get right up to the vehicles, this was an obvious form of protection.

On the tabletop

This M4A3 with a 76 mm gun carries planks nailed to its sides, as American crews fitted them in the Pacific. In Bolt Action you add it as a medium tank to your US list for island fighting, where the longer gun also works against armoured targets. The resin and white metal model shows a tank modified by its own crew; the turret-mounted heavy machine gun is not included. Achtung Panzer! covers it as well.
