Background & context

In the West in 1944/45 flamethrower tanks were above all a tool against concrete. Where high-explosive shells remained ineffective against bunker embrasures and cellar windows, a burst of flame was enough to drive the occupants out. The British had shown the way with the Churchill Crocodile, and the US Army had around a hundred Shermans converted on the same principle: fuel in a towed trailer, everything on the outside, and able to be jettisoned from the fighting compartment in an emergency. Their use in the assault on the old citadel of Jülich became well known.

On the tabletop

In Bolt Action the Sherman Crocodile is a medium tank for American armoured platoons, carrying a flamethrower in the hull alongside the 75 mm gun in its turret. That gives you two jobs in one vehicle: the gun fights tanks, while the flamethrower drives the enemy out of bunkers, cellars and houses. The fuel follows in a trailer. It suits games in the West in 1944/45, such as the assault on the citadel at Jülich. Achtung Panzer! covers it as well.
