Product details

Background & context

The 8cm Granatwerfer 34 was regarded as one of the best weapons in its class: accurate, effective out to around 2,400 metres and served by three men. Its problem was mobility. Lugging barrel, bipod and baseplate separately cost time, and time is exactly what is lacking when following up behind tanks. On the Hanomag that was solved: the mortar and 66 rounds rode along and the crew sat behind armour. From 1943 Hanomag built the Ausf D with a simplified superstructure of sloped, welded plates.

On the tabletop

The 251/2 carries the 8 cm mortar of your Panzergrenadiers in Bolt Action and brings it quickly and safely to where it is needed. Its armour keeps rifle fire and shell splinters off the crew. Usually the mortar is set up on the ground and fires in an arc over cover at infantry in trenches or behind walls, but in an emergency the crew can also fire straight from the vehicle. The Ausf. D fits games from 1943 and is covered by Achtung Panzer! as well.
