    Beschreibung

    The Sd.Kfz 251/2 Ausf D brought the heavy 8cm mortar to the Panzergrenadier order of battle: protected by armour, quick to reposition, and capable of firing from inside the vehicle or dismounted. The simplified armoured form of the Ausf D made it the most produced half-track from 1943 onwards on almost all theaters of war.

    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Sd.Kfz 251 by Hanomag was the backbone of the German Panzergrenadiers and was built in over twenty variants. The 251/2 variant carried the proven 8cm infantry mortar - deployable from within the vehicle or dismounted - and allowed mortar fire to be quickly shifted and enemy infantry to be kept under indirect fire. The Ausf D, produced from 1943 onwards, was the most manufactured version with a simplified, welded armor shape and was used on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The Sd.Kfz. 251/2 brings an 8cm mortar mobilised to the battlefield. In-game, it supports mechanised attacks with indirect fire and suppression of infantry in cover. The half-track platform allows for repositioning, but should be protected from direct fire.
