The Sd.Kfz 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen was the fearsome flamethrower variant of the German standard half-track - with two main flamethrowers mounted on the sides and an additional portable device for the crew. The crew protected themselves from their own heat development with protective headgear, making this vehicle one of the most distinctive of World War II.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Sd.Kfz 251/16 was created as a specialized conversion of the proven Sd.Kfz 251/1 Ausf. D, featuring two main flamethrowers mounted on the sides, as well as an additional portable, but still vehicle-connected via pipeline, small-caliber flamethrower for dismounted infantry. The regular machine gun armament was retained to ensure close protection. As a special feature, crews wore protective gear ranging from full hoods to heavy scarves with goggles to protect themselves from flame flashback. The vehicle was preferentially used against fortified positions and in close-quarters urban combat.

Einsatz im Spiel

The Sd.Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen is an aggressive special-purpose vehicle for short distances. In-game, it forces enemy infantry out of cover, buildings, and choke points. It is not an anti-aircraft vehicle but a flamethrower half-track that must be carefully brought to its target.
