Product details

Background & context

The 251/16 appeared in 1943 as a conversion of the standard Hanomag: two flamethrowers on the hull sides, fed from tanks in the fighting compartment, plus a unit on a hose that one man could take outside with him. Its range was around 35 metres, enough for bunker embrasures and rows of windows, but only if the vehicle drove up almost to throwing distance. That is exactly what made it a favoured target, because a hit in the flame fuel tanks ended the mission at once. The crews made do with hoods, thick scarves and goggles.

On the tabletop

The 251/16 is the flamethrower half-track for your Panzergrenadiers in Bolt Action. Its two side-mounted flame projectors clear bunkers, trenches and buildings, but it has to get very close to the enemy to do so. An MG adds protection, and a portable flamethrower on a hose can also be used by dismounted crew. Because it has to drive in so close, it quickly becomes the main target, so use every bit of cover on the way forward. Decals and damage markers are included.
