The Sd.Kfz 250 Alte was the lighter counterpart to the Sd.Kfz 251 and accompanied German reconnaissance and headquarters units throughout the war. This kit allows for the construction of three different variants: as a standard half-track, as a mortar carrier with an 8.1cm mortar, or as an anti-aircraft variant with twin-mounted MG34s.

Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Sd.Kfz 250 was a shortened version of the well-known Sd.Kfz 251 Hanomag and served German reconnaissance and headquarters units from the 1940 Western Campaign in all theaters of war. The "Alte" (old) version, with its characteristically angular armored hull, was the original model and remained in service long after the introduction of the simplified "Neu" (new) version from late 1943. Depending on the variant, the vehicle performed very different tasks - from standard personnel carrier to fast mortar carrier to experimental anti-aircraft prototype.

This Sd.Kfz. 250 Alte covers several light halftrack roles in one kit. The 250/1 role transports small squads, while the 250/7 option brings mortar support to a mobile platform. This makes the set useful for flexible mechanized lists with support elements.
