Background & context

Der Nashorn teilte sich das Fahrgestell mit dem Hummel, bekam statt der Haubitze aber die lange 8,8-cm-Pak 43 - das stärkste Panzerabwehrgeschütz, das die Wehrmacht 1943 in Serie hatte. Anfangs hieß der Wagen Hornisse, ab 1944 dann Nashorn. Knapp fünfhundert Stück gingen an selbständige schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilungen, die damit an der Ostfront und in Italien auf Distanz jagten. Panzerung hatte er praktisch keine: zehn Millimeter Blech, oben offen, eher Geschützstellung als Panzer.

On the tabletop

The Nashorn carries the long 8.8 cm Pak 43, the most powerful anti-tank gun the Wehrmacht had in series production in 1943, on the Hummel chassis. The crew, however, has almost no protection: ten millimetres of plate and an open top. In Bolt Action you therefore place it far back in cover and engage heavy tanks at long range before they find you. Just under five hundred served with heavy tank destroyer battalions on the Eastern Front and in Italy, and Achtung Panzer! covers it too.
