    Background & context

    Die Pikten nördlich der römischen Grenze hinterließen keine eigenen Texte, dafür Symbolsteine und einen Ruf, der bis nach Rom reichte. Ihre Verbände kämpften in dichter Ordnung mit überlangen Speeren und konnten damit sogar Reiterei abweisen. Ab dem 5. Jahrhundert setzten sich Scoti aus Irland an der Westküste fest und bauten Dál Riata auf. Vier Jahrhunderte lang standen beide Machtblöcke nebeneinander, bis sie im 9. Jahrhundert zu einem schottischen Königreich verschmolzen.

    On the tabletop

    The 36 unarmoured warriors can be built as Picts of the late Roman period or Scots of the Viking Age. With long spears you form dense spear blocks and shield walls that can even turn back cavalry. Javelins, swords and axes turn other figures into skirmishers fighting in the terrain ahead of the block. The distinctively shaped Pictish shields are included, and with the supplement The Fall of Rome you can also field the Picts in Pillage.
