    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    Thegns were wealthier warriors of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and served their lords as military retainers. They were better trained and equipped than common peasant warriors, often wearing chainmail, iron helmets, and round shields with iron bosses. In a shield wall, such heavily armored foot soldiers could form a particularly resilient front. Their equipment made them effective against blows and cuts, but was less suitable for rapid skirmishing and changing battle lines.

In SAGA, Pillage, and Lion Rampant, the models are suitable as high-quality warriors or retainers, reinforcing the shieldwall and fighting crucial close-combat engagements. They hold the center better than simple Ceorls and can protect leaders or objectives. Their role is not fast skirmishing, but solid, resilient close-quarters combat.
