    Product details

    Background & context

Ceorls were free peasants in Anglo-Saxon England and formed an important part of the Fyrd levy. Their right to bear arms was linked to the duty of military service. In battle, they usually stood in line with spears, axes, swords, and shields. The miniatures fit the context of Anglo-Saxon armies from the early Middle Ages to the time of the Viking Wars.

    On the tabletop

For the fyrd of your Anglo-Saxon army, pack A provides eight ceorls in eight different poses, with helmet, cap or bareheaded. As free men with the right to bear arms they went to war with spear and round shield when the king called out the levy. In Hail Caesar, SAGA or Pillage they form the broad mass of your battle line behind the armoured warriors. Combined with the plastic ceorls they add variety to your shield wall.
