Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Rus combined Scandinavian origins with the trade and power structures of Eastern Europe. During the Viking Age, they appeared as traders, warriors, settlers, and mercenaries, utilizing river routes between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and Byzantium. A warband consisting of armored warriors, lighter fighters, and ranged combatants is well-suited for raids, border conflicts, and smaller skirmishes. The focus is on mobile skirmishes with a clearly discernible Eastern character.

Einsatz im Spiel

The Rus Warband is designed as a compact starter force with melee troops, ranged fighters, and command elements. In SAGA and Pillage, it directly provides a playable mix of core warriors and supporters. In Hail Caesar, it can serve as a small unit or an addition to larger Rus armies. For Lion Rampant, it offers a good basis for a versatile early medieval retinue.
