Product details

Background & context

Fortified frontier settlements such as Boonesborough in Kentucky relied on plain palisades and heavy wooden gates. These gates were usually built from thick planks and barred from the inside with crossbeams. An elaborate gatehouse was often left out because time, tools and labour were in short supply. During the War of Independence such stockades held out against raids again and again, as long as the gate stayed shut.

On the tabletop

When your fort needs a plain opening rather than a gatehouse, these gates do the job. Fit them between straight palisade walls or next to a corner unit and choose which side the entrance faces. Compared with the gatehouse from the same range, the entrance looks more modest and suits smaller outposts. For the attacker the gate still remains the obvious target for an assault.
